President Sang welcomes JBIC Governor Hiroshi Watanabe

(VOV) - Vietnam will unceasingly create the best possible conditions for Japanese companies to operate efficiently in the country, President Truong Tan Sang told JBIC Governor Hiroshi Watanabe in Hanoi on July 15.

He thanked the Japanese government and agencies, including the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), for providing official development assistance (ODA) for Vietnam’s development projects which are progressing in the country.

Sang noted businesses and management agencies of both Vietnam and Japan have reached a number of cooperation agreements in the areas of agriculture, tourism, infrastructure construction, investment, and support industry development.

Many Japanese delegations came to help Vietnam renovate production modes, especially the tuna fishing programme in central Vietnam.

In turn, many Vietnamese experts were dispatched to Japan’s Ibaraki prefecture to learn about farm produce processing, farming techniques and agricultural machinery operations.

President Sang expressed his belief that Vietnam’s new investment incentives will attract more Japanese businesses.

He hailed cooperation agreements in infrastructure construction in Nghi Son, Van Phong and Vung Ang industrial zones, and asked the JBIC governor to speed up credit programmes for Vietnam to realise these agreements.

For his part, governor Watanabe spoke highly of Vietnam’s improved and stable investment environment, as well as Vietnamese agencies’ cooperation in dealing with Japan’s ODA graft scandal.

He said Japan will sign with Vietnam credit packages for Vinh Tan 4 thermo-power plant project and discuss construction of other thermo-power projects in Nghi Son, Vung Ang, and Van Phong economic zones.

He also revealed Japan will maintain ODA for Vietnam.

At another reception for the visiting JBIC governor, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh re-assured his guest that Vietnam will effectively manage and use Japanese ODA for development goals.

He noted with satisfaction the strong development of the extensive strategic partnership between the two countries, and said Vietnam wants to deepen economic ties with Japan.

He appreciated JBIC’s assistance for Vietnam in perfecting institutions and developing quality human resources. He said pooling domestic and foreign capital sources is crucial for Vietnam to undertake development projects.

Governor Watanabe highly valued Vietnam’s macroeconomic stability, considering it an important factor in attracting foreign investment.

He pledged to encourage Japanese businesses to invest in Vietnam and cooperate with Vietnamese agencies in implementing future projects.
