PM Prayut holds bilateral talks with three ASEAN leaders

Thailand’s Prime Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, held bilateral talks with his counterparts from Indonesia, Myanmar and Vietnam at the 34th ASEAN Summit in Bangkok.

They have agreed to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment and in addressing regional issues.

Gen. Prayut and the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, have agreed to strengthen cooperation to mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Indonesia.

Both countries will work together to remove barriers to trade and investment, improve cyber-security and address illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing comprehensively.

The meeting between Gen. Prayut and the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, discussed the 4th Joint Cabinet Retreat (JCR), which will be held in Vietnam.

The 4th JCR will discuss the cooperation between Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos to combat IUU fishing. The meeting will also discuss the R12 route development project, aimed at stimulating trade and tourism between Thailand and Vietnam.

At the meeting between the Thai Prime Minister and the State Counselor of Myanmar, Aung San Suu Kyi, Gen. Prayut affirmed Thailand’s commitment to cooperate with Myanmar for mutual benefit at all levels.

He also expressed his gratitude to Myanmar for resolving the Rakhine problem. He said Thailand and ASEAN will continue to work to ensure regional security.
