At a reception for Salvador Valdes Mesa, Vice President of the Council of State and Special Envoy of First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba’s Central Committee and President of the Council of State Raul Castro Ruz in Hanoi on June 20, Trong congratulated the success of the 7th National Party Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba (CPC) and the great achievements that the Cuban Party, State and people have recorded in updating socio-economic model and in external relations.
The Party leader said the visit to Vietnam by Salvador Valdes Mesa shows the mutual trust between the two countries’ top leaders as well as the time-honoured friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnamese and Cuban Parties, States and peoples.
Salvador Valdes Mesa for his part also congratulated the Communist Party of Vietnam on its successful 12th National Congress, expressing his belief that the Resolution adopted at the event will help the Vietnamese Party, State and people reap more successes during the “Doi Moi” (renewal) process.
Meeting with the Cuban guest the same day, President Quang highlighted the mutual trust between the two countries’ leaders and the traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and solidarity between the two Parties, States and peoples.
He said he hoped the two countries will further strengthen their political relationship and expand economic, trade, science, technology, culture and education cooperation.
Mesa glowingly spoke of Vietnam’s assistance for Cuba in ensuring food security, hoping that Cuba will achieve the target of meeting 50% of domestic demands.
He briefed the Vietnamese State leader on Cuba’s socio-economic situation and believed that the results of its economic model update will give more opportunities to enhance economic and trade links between the two nations.
He also used the occasion to convey President Raul Castro’s invitation to President Quang to visit Cuba. The invitation was accepted and the visit will be arranged through the diplomatic channel.
The Cuban offiical also held talks with Mr. Pham Minh Chinh, Head of the Organization Commission of the Party Central Committee. The two sides briefed each other on the situation of their parties and countries and preparations for the 3rd Theoretical Workshop of the two Parties.
The workshop is scheduled to take place in Vietnam later this year.
During their trip to Vietnam, the Cuban delegation paid tribute to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, laid a wreath at the Cuban National Hero Hose Marti Monument, met with Hoang Binh Quan, Head of the External Relations Commission of the Party Central Committee, and visited Ho Chi Minh City and Ninh Binh province.
