Law on international treaties reviewed

The 2005 Law on signing, joining, and implementing international treaties has proved significant in the country’s domestic and foreign policy, helping institutionalize the Party’s guidelines and integrate the country further into the international community.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ho Xuan Son made this remark at a conference held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hanoi on December 8 to review the implementation of the law.

The law has been enforced by ministries and localities, bringing positive benefits.

Since 2006, Vietnam has signed more than 850 international treaties and joined 14 multilateral international treaties.

Participants in the conference said problems remain that need to be addressed, such as slowness in implementing procedures related to the effect of international treaties and inconsistent interpretation of them between signatories.
