Deputy PM chairs APEC 2017 National Committee's ninth meeting

VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh on September 20 chaired the 9th meeting of the APEC 2017 National Committee in Hanoi.

Deputy PM Minh said there are 46 days left for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in the central city of Danang and Party and State leaders are very interested in how far preparatory work has been done.

It is imperative to ensure rapid and thorough preparations to make the Week a great success, he said while underlining the need
 to prepare carefully the content of the event through close coordination with APEC member economies to reach a consensus, meeting the common concern and that of Vietnam while creating the country’s hallmark.

Logistical preparations have made progress but the completion of facilities in service of the Week need to be accelerated guaranteeing their quality and test run before the second fact-finding visit of APEC member economies in early October, Minh noted.

He described the cultural and popularization work as an opportunity for the country to promote its dynamism, innovation, and modernity, as well as the provision of technical assistance and facilities for local and foreign pressmen to do their job. 

The APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting is set to take place in central Danang city from November 6-11, expecting to welcome leaders from 21 member economies and roughly 10,000 local and international delegates.

Established in 1989, APEC comprises 21 economies, including Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taiwan, Thailand, the US, and Vietnam.
Vietnam participated in the organization in 1998.
