Robust signs since the outset of the year have made the timber and forestry sector confident of gaining 11 billion USD in export revenue in 2019, beating the target of 10.5 billion USD.
The forest industry gained a trade surplus of more than US$4 billion in the first six months of this year, according to the Vietnam Administration of Forestry under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Vietnam earned US$4.15 billion from exports of wood and wooden products in the first six months of this year, marking an increase of 8.4% compared with the same period last year.
Though exports have been growing well, concern still exists because wooden furniture industry is in need of materials.
Relevant agencies need to better promote trade and remove barriers so as to earn US$40 billion from agro-forestry-fishery exports this year, said Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam.
The export turnover of Vietnamese timber and timber products is estimated to hit US$8 billion this year, 10% higher than the target, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported at a meeting on sustainable forestry development held in Hanoi on November 28.
