Myanmar: President urges to set up new election commission
Myanmar President-elect U Htin Kyaw on March 25 proposed the country’s Union Parliament to form a new Union Election Commission to prepare for the next general election.
On March 15, Htin Kyaw, 69, of the National League for Democracy (NLD) led by Aung San Suu Kyi, was elected as Myanmar’s first civilian President in decades.
Htin Kyaw's sworn-in ceremony is scheduled to take place on April 1.
