Cambodian opposition lawmaker imprisoned over harmful posts

Cambodian opposition lawmaker Um Sam An was sentenced to two and a half years in prison at a trial in Phnom Penh on October 10 for posting a fake Cambodia-Vietnam border map on his Facebook page.

The outspoken member of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) was found guilty of inciting discrimination and social instability according to the local criminal law.

Judge Heng Sok Na also fined him 4 million Riel (US$1,000) at the trial.

On April 11, Um Sam An was arrested shortly after returning to Cambodia from abroad for falsifying documents related to the Cambodia-Vietnam border map.
