Vietnam ranks among China’s top international visitor markets
VOV.VN - Vietnam ranked among China’s 10 largest international visitor markets in the first half of 2026 as the country’s relaxed visa policies continued to drive strong growth in inbound tourism.
According to China’s National Immigration Administration (NIA), the country welcomed 22.91 million international arrivals during the first six months of 2026, up 20.4% from the same period last year.
Of the total, 17.82 million visitors entered China under visa-free arrangements, accounting for 77.7% of all international arrivals and representing a 30.6% year on year increase.
The NIA said the top 10 source markets for international visitors were the Repubic of Korea, Russia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, the United States, Japan, Mongolia and Australia. Together, these markets accounted for about 62% of all international arrivals.
Chinese authorities attributed the growth to expanded visa facilitation measures. China currently offers unilateral visa-free entry to ordinary passport holders from around 50 countries and has broadened its transit visa-free programmes to encourage tourism, business travel and people-to-people exchanges.
Outbound travel by Chinese citizens also continued to recover. Mainland Chinese residents made 88.02 million outbound trips during the first half of the year, an increase of 10.5% compared with the same period in 2025.
Meanwhile, countries including Türkiye, Brazil, Sudan and Cambodia have introduced unilateral visa-free policies for holders of ordinary Chinese passports, further supporting international travel.
