Vietnam: Beyond Words to bring the country closer to international friends
VOV.VN - A large-scale film project aimed at promoting Vietnam’s national image globally has been launched, with ambitions to serve as a “cultural ambassador” across international platforms, contributing to the country’s brand identity, tourism appeal and investment attraction.
The project, titled Vietnam: Beyond Words, was unveiled in Hanoi on June 30. It is directed by filmmaker Luong Dinh Dung under the sponsorship and coordination of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Department of Cinema.
According to the production team, the film is designed as the most comprehensive audiovisual work to date promoting Vietnam’s national image, capturing the country’s natural landscapes, historical depth, cultural identity and people across all 34 provinces and cities, as well as its seas and islands.
The project brings together domestic filmmakers in collaboration with international experts and is produced with modern cinematic standards in both visuals and sound.
Addressing the announcement ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong emphasised that cinema has proven to be one of the most effective tools for promoting national images globally.
He noted that several localities such as Ha Giang, Phu Yen and Ninh Binh have seen sharp increases in tourism following their appearance in film productions, highlighting the potential synergy between cinema and tourism as dual growth drivers.
He also called on relevant ministries, localities and media agencies to facilitate the production team’s access to filming locations, compelling stories and working conditions, enabling the creation of a Vietnamese-produced work that can effectively popularize the country’s image to international audiences.
Regarding the film project, director Luong Dinh Dung stated that the idea behind the project stems from the belief that no single language can fully capture Vietnam, as every region and community tells its own story.
Through cinematic language, he said, the team aims to inspire discovery among international visitors while presenting Vietnam to global audiences, including potential investors.
A central message of the project is that every Vietnamese citizen can contribute “a page of profile” to the country’s story. Through individual narratives, the film seeks to build a comprehensive portrait of a modern Vietnam that is culturally rich, dynamic and attractive.
Organisers said the project is not only aimed at tourism promotion but also at strengthening national branding through cultural soft power and cinema. Upon completion, the film will be showcased at domestic and international cultural events and distributed across digital platforms to reach global audiences.
The project is scheduled for release on November 24, 2026, coinciding with Vietnam Cultural Day. It also plans to integrate QR codes at diplomatic missions, border gates, public spaces, hotels and transport systems to make promotional content easily accessible to visitors.
In 2027, the film is expected to be submitted to several international film festivals as part of efforts to further showcase Vietnam’s global image.
