Vietnam Airlines to open ticket sales for Lunar New Year holiday

This marks the first ticket release for the month-long peak travel period, running from January 22 to February 20, 2027 (corresponding to the 15th day of the last lunar month through the 15th day of the first lunar month).

Opening Tet ticket sales early gives passengers more time to plan trips to their hometowns, visits to relatives, or vacations. Meanwhile, airlines can monitor market demand to adjust capacity on specific routes.

On domestic routes, seat capacity is projected to increase by 15.4% between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and by 7% between HCM City and Da Nang. Besides routes connecting HCM City with Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Vinh, and Hue are expected to see increases ranging from 6% to 13% compared to Tet 2026.

Nguyen Quang Trung, deputy general director of Vietnam Airlines, said that apart from the need to return to one’s hometown or visit relatives, there’s an increasing number of families to choose the Tet holiday to reunite and travel together. With flexible flight selection, passengers have chances to enjoy a wider range of options regarding flight times and fares.

In the international market, Vietnam Airlines Group will increase flight frequencies between Vietnam and Japan, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, and Singapore, as well as other markets with high demand for tourism and visiting friends and relatives. From January 22 to February 20, 2027, total international seat capacity will exceed 1.1 million, up 10% from the 2026 Tet holiday. In particular, seat capacity on the Da Nang – Seoul route will rise by 94%, Hanoi – Osaka by 81%, Hanoi – Taipei by 64%, and Da Nang – Tokyo by 58%.

Flights departing between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. will also be increased during peak periods, helping to distribute passenger traffic outside during busy daytime hours, optimize fleet utilization, and expand flight schedule options. These early-morning and late-night flights account for approximately 17% of the total number of flights.

Vietnam Airlines Group recommends that passengers should book tickets early and remain flexible regarding flight schedules. For families with tourism plan, choosing flights earlier helps passengers to buy tickets at favourable prices.

Tet flight tickets sold out despite extra capacity
