Vietnam Airlines launches direct HCM City–Phuket route

VOV.VN - Vietnam Airlines on July 2 launched a new direct service between Ho Chi Minh City and Phuket, strengthening air connectivity between Vietnam and Thailand as the two countries prepare to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

The new route is expected to boost tourism, trade and people-to-people exchanges while supporting broader economic cooperation between the two Southeast Asian neighbours. It also reflects Vietnam's efforts to expand international connectivity under the Politburo’s Resolution 59 on international integration in the new context.

Thuanchai Tansuriyawong, deputy director of Phuket International Airport, shared that the service would not only stimulate tourism but also create new opportunities for trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges, contributing to the development of both countries.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung described the launch as a meaningful milestone ahead of the anniversary of diplomatic ties, saying it would help deepen exchanges between the two countries in tourism, business and cultural cooperation.

Vietnam Airlines plans to operate four round-trip flights a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Santi Chudintra, deputy governor for International Marketing for Asia & the South Pacific at the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), stressed that the route is a tangible outcome of the cooperation agreement between TAT and Vietnam Airlines, highlighting closer collaboration between the aviation and tourism sectors of the two countries.

The direct air service between Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's largest economic hub, and Phuket, one of Thailand's leading beach destinations on the Andaman Sea, is set to enhance international connectivity by allowing travellers to connect via Ho Chi Minh City to destinations in Northeast Asia, Europe and Australia.
