Tien Giang receives record number of international arrivals
VOV.VN - The Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang welcomed an Indian delegation of up to 420 people on July 17, representing the largest number of international tourists since the COVID-19 pandemic was brought under control, according to information from local authorities.
The delegation was made up of various leaders, officials, and employees of Volvo-Eicher Company, an enterprise specializing in manufacturing buses and trucks in India, with the group travelling from Ho Chi Minh City to My Tho city in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang.
Upon arrival at the My Tho Tourist Wharf, the delegation took a boat tour on the Tien river, visited Thoi Son Islet to listen to folk songs, enjoyed a range of local delicacies, and received gifts given by the local authorities.
Nguyen Vu Khanh, director of the Tourism Development Center under the Tien Giang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said this marks the largest group of foreign tourists to the province since the pandemic was contained, adding that the locality has actively implemented tourism stimulus schemes to attract tourists, especially international visitors.
It can be viewed that the recent rise in the number of international visitors signals the rapid recovery of the local tourism industry.
During the first half of the year, Tien Giang province welcomed over 287,000 visitors, including 9,200 foreign arrivals, representing a rise of 9% against the same period from last year. This year, the locality is aiming to receive 580,000 visitors, a figure which is double that of last year.
