Tet flight tickets sold out despite extra capacity

VOV.VN - Flight tickets for many routes from the two busiest cities - Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi - to northern and central localities for the upcoming Lunar New Year, known locally as Tet, have sold out despite a number of extra flights being added.

Accordingly, as of January 10, domestic airlines had added a further 522 flights, equivalent to 133,000 seats, to the high-demand routes.

Statistics show that flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Hue/Pleiku/Tuy Hoa/Quy Nhon/Buon Ma Thuot/Quang Binh/Thanh Hoa/Vinh/Chu Lai/Quy Nhon/Nha Trang during peak travel dates before Tet have been fully booked.

The same situation has also occurred on routes from Hanoi to Buon Me Thuot.

The Ho Chi Minh City–Hanoi/Da Nang route between January 25 and February 2 is also crowded, with the flight booking rate exceeding 90%.

In addition, on routes such as Ho Chi Minh City-Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City-Hanoi, Hanoi- Da Nang, and Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City, occupancy rates are set to increase rapidly during the festive season.

On several dates, such as the first day of the holiday that falls on February 25, on routes from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang/Pleiku/Da Nang/Hue/Hai Phong/Thanh Hoa, even business-class tickets have been sold out.

Meanwhile, despite offering attractive prices, few flights from provinces and cities to Ho Chi Minh City have already been sold.

Most notably, return flights after Tet, particularly on February 2, are seeing surging demand, specifically for routes from northern and central provinces back to Ho Chi Minh City.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and airlines are now exploring further capacity increases and additional night flights in a bid to address the continued surge in demand.
