Singapore visitors can now pay in Vietnam using VietQRGlobal

The service was jointly launched by the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS), Liquid Group of Singapore and VietinBank, marking another step toward expanding digital payment connectivity between Vietnam and Singapore.

Transactions are processed in real time, with automatic currency conversion between the Singapore dollar (SGD) and the Vietnamese dong (VND).

Singaporean users can pay directly at millions of QR-enabled merchants across Vietnam, including restaurants, cafés, hotels, shopping malls and retail outlets, using their existing banking or e-wallet applications, without exchanging cash or using bank cards.

During the initial rollout, the service is expected to reach around five million users through Liquid Group's partner ecosystem in Singapore, with broader coverage planned as the network expands.

According to NAPAS, the Singapore connection brings the total number of countries and territories linked to its cross-border QR payment network to six, including four ASEAN markets. The initiative is expected to make digital payments more convenient for international visitors while helping Vietnamese retailers, hospitality businesses and tourism operators better serve foreign customers.

NAPAS CEO Nguyen Quang Minh said the Singapore partnership forms part of the company's broader strategy to expand the international reach of the VietQR payment infrastructure.

He revealed NAPAS would continue working with domestic and international partners to broaden cross-border QR payment connectivity in response to growing demand from consumers, businesses and international travellers.

Jeremy Tan, CEO of Liquid Group, said the company's RoamQR platform allows customers to pay overseas using familiar banking or e-wallet applications. The platform also enables merchants to accept international QR payments without investing in additional payment infrastructure.

A VietinBank representative said Singaporean visitors can begin using their banking or e-wallet apps to pay via VietQR codes at millions of merchant locations nationwide from July 2.

NAPAS and its partners plan to introduce outbound QR payments from Vietnam to Singapore later in 2026, completing a two-way QR payment ecosystem between the two countries.

The launch comes as Vietnam continues to record strong growth in international tourism. According to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, the country welcomed 10.6 million international arrivals during the first five months of 2026, up 14.9% year on year.

Singapore is one of Vietnam’s fastest-growing inbound tourism markets. A survey conducted by Changi Airport Group found that three in five Singaporeans have visited Vietnam, while 95% of respondents said they intend to return.

The survey also indicated that Singaporean travellers are generally high-spending visitors who prefer cashless payment methods, highlighting strong potential for expanding cross-border digital payment services.

Vietnam targets cashless payment value reaching 30 times GDP by 2030

To help achieve the goal of maintaining average GDP growth of over 10% annually and increasing the value of cashless transactions to approximately 30 times GDP by 2030, the Government has identified cashless payments not only as a convenient tool but also as a key driver of digital finance development.
