New Dong Hoi-Cam Ranh route aims to boost central Vietnam tourism

VOV.VN - The launch of a new direct air service between Dong Hoi and Cam Ranh is expected to strengthen tourism connectivity between Quang Tri and Khanh Hoa provinces, creating new opportunities for interregional travel, cultural exchanges and higher-value visitor flows.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa, in partnership with Sun PhuQuoc Airways, on July 29 introduced the new Dong Hoi–Cam Ranh air route and unveiled the Khanh Hoa Culture and Tourism Days in Quang Tri 2026.

According to the announcement, Sun PhuQuoc Airways will begin operating the round-trip service on August 16 using Airbus A320neo aircraft that accommodates around 200 passengers. The route will run three round trips per week, on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The new connection will improve accessibility between Khanh Hoa and Quang Tri while expanding both provinces' reach to domestic and international visitors. Through Cam Ranh International Airport, the service is also expected to attract higher-spending travelers and strengthen tourism connectivity across central Vietnam.

The route will also strengthen tourism links between Quang Tri, Khanh Hoa and neighbouring provinces, supporting the development of the "Central Heritage Road"—a multi-destination tourism corridor combining Khanh Hoa's coastal resorts with Quang Tri's historical, cultural and ecological attractions.

According to the airline, market demand has been encouraging, with nearly 1,000 bookings recorded during the initial ticket sales period. Seat occupancy has continued to increase, reflecting growing travel demand between the two destinations.

The route also marks an important step in Quang Tri's preparations for the 2027 National Tourism Year, which the province hopes will help establish it as one of Vietnam's leading tourism destinations.

Coinciding with the launch of the new air service, the Khanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced the Khanh Hoa Culture and Tourism Days in Quang Tri 2026. The event will be held from Aug. 14 to 18 in Dong Hoi ward, Quang Tri province, featuring cultural performances, tourism promotion programmes and exhibitions highlighting the province's tourism offerings.

Thai Thi Le Hang, director of the Khanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the new air route would strengthen transport connectivity, support the development of interregional tourism products and foster closer cooperation between businesses in Khanh Hoa and Quang Tri.

She added that the cultural and tourism event is intended to deepen cooperation between Khanh Hoa and Quang Tri in culture, sports and tourism. It will also introduce Khanh Hoa's cultural heritage, signature tourism products, One Commune One Product (OCOP) items and local specialties to residents, visitors and businesses in the north-central region, particularly Quang Tri province.
