MOTS expects 48 billion baht in tourism-related revenue during Chinese New Year

The Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports (MOTS) is promoting tourism during the upcoming Chinese New Year holiday and expects some 48 billion baht in tourism-related revenue.

MOTS' Permanent-Secretary Pongpanu Svetarundra chaired a meeting with 13 related agencies to make preparations for facilitations to be provided to tourists and safety measures during the Chinese New Year holiday from 15 until February 21, 2018.

He said some 800,000 tourists are expected to visit Thailand during that period, some 300,000 of whom will be Chinese, accounting for a 20% increase over the same period last year, given more direct flights from China to Thailand.

He said 90% of these tourists are expected to visit key tourist cities, namely Bangkok, Chonburi, Phuket, and Chiang Mai, while only 10% will visit other tourist spots such as Chiang Rai and Koh Samui island.

The tourism-related businesses are expected to generate 48 billion baht in revenue, he said.
