More foreign visitors arrive on New Year’s Days

(VOV) - Large numbers of foreign holiday-makers have arrived in Vietnam during the first days of the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.

Nha Trang city’s administration on February 12, or the third day of the festival, welcomed Dutch -flagship Volendam carrying 900 crewmembers and 1,400 passengers, mostly from the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada.

Municipal authorities presented gifts to the cruise ship’s captain and the first three passengers.

After the welcoming ceremony, the passengers made a tour of destinations in the city such as Po Nagar tower complex, Long Son pagoda, and Nha Phu bay’s islands, and took part in a Tet cake cutting ceremony at Yasaka Saigon hotel.

On February 10, Bai Chay Tourist Resort in Quang Ninh province received the first groups of foreign visitors, including 12 from the Republic of Korea and 23 from France.

The same day, Saigontourist, the country’s leading tour operator, received Chinese cruise ship MV Henna, bringing more than 1,100 crewmembers and visitors to the World Heritage Site of Ha Long Bay, also in Quang Ninh province.

On New Year’s Day, the Lao Cai international border gate welcomed 1,500 foreign visitors entering Vietnam from China, 300 more than the figure a year ago.

The gate plans to serve a total of 6,000 foreign visitors during the week-long holiday, an increase of nearly 1,000 holiday-makers from the corresponding period last year.

Meanwhile, the Mong Cai international border gate also received the first group of 142 visitors from Hong Kong. They planned to visit Mong Cai and Hanoi.
