Khanh Hoa targets night-time marine economy to boost tourism

The provincial People's Committee held the workshop to launch Khanh Hoa's tourism development strategy for 2026–2030, with a vision to 2045, under the theme of building a modern, distinctive tourism ecosystem for Khanh Hoa.

Associate professor Dr. Nguyen Quyet Thang, vice chairman of the Scientific and Training Council of the Vietnam Tourism Association, said the night-time economy should evolve beyond traditional dining, shopping and entertainment to include a broader ecosystem combining culture, performing arts, creative industries, light shows, festivals and sporting events.

Leveraging its extensive coastline and islands, Khanh Hoa has strong potential to develop a night-time marine economy through products such as night cruises, sea-based performances, marine sports, waterfront pedestrian streets, night festivals and seafood experiences, he affirmed.

According to tourism experts, expanding the night-time marine economy is not only about creating new tourism products but also about increasing the economic value generated by each visitor.

To encourage visitors to stay longer, Thang proposed that Khanh Hoa should establish dedicated night-time economic zones, develop high-quality tourism products, improve infrastructure and governance, accelerate digital transformation, and strengthen cooperation among tourism businesses.

"The marine night-time economy should be developed in a civilized, safe and sustainable manner, ensuring a balance between tourism growth, marine environmental protection and improvements to local residents' quality of life," Thang stressed.

Meanwhile, architect Pham Phu Cuong, vice chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Architects Association, noted that iconic architectural projects could generate long-term value for the province.

Cuong pointed out that Khanh Hoa still lacks landmark structures of international standing and proposed developing signature projects in areas such as Nha Trang Bay, the Po Nagar Tower area, the northern Cam Ranh Peninsula and Van Phong Bay.

“Khanh Hoa’s landmark architecture should have international significance, but it should not replicate models from elsewhere. It must reflect the province’s own identity and support its long-term development goals,” he added.
