International tourists to experience wet-rice culture at 2026 rice festival
VOV.VN - Domestic and foreign tourists will have the chance to experience wet-rice culture and the daily lives of locals in the southern region at the second Vietnam international rice industry festival slated for November 23–26 in Can Tho City.
Addressing a press conference on August 19, Tran Chi Hung, vice chairman of Can Tho municipal People’s Committee stressed that this is a major event of significant political, economic, cultural, and social importance for Can Tho City and the Mekong Delta region, as well as for the development of Vietnam's rice industry during Đổi mới (Renewal) and international integration.
Featuring over 500 booths, the festival aims to honour agricultural achievements and promote the rice heritage of the Mekong Delta region. At the same time, it reaffirms the strengths of the country in developing the rice industry and contributing to global food security.
The festival will also showcase modern rice production models and the region's key agricultural products to international markets which help to foster the production of clean rice, enhance value chains, and gradually develop organic rice to ensure food safety, and adapt to climate change.
Furthermore, the event will introduce the culture, customs, and traditions of Vietnam's ethnic groups, particularly those in Can Tho City, to international visitors.
Alongside the opening ceremony slated for November 23 at Song Hau Park, a wide range of activities will take place, such as a contest for creating products from rice and a competition on the flavours of Vietnamese rice.
There will be an exhibition showcasing achievements in the rice industry, rice-based products, and local specialties.
An event to display achievements in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation in the agricultural and rice sectors; AI-based technological solutions; smart technologies and AI in rice production; emission-reduction technologies and circular economy models will be organised. The highlights will be seminars on Vietnamese rice, low-emission solutions, and the exhibition on the rice journey from the past to the future.
Visitors will explore people’s lives in the Mekong Delta region through activities such as manual rice pounding, making traditional rice-based cakes, and folk games, performances of Đờn ca tài tử (folk music in the southern Vietnam) and traditional musical instruments, boat races and tours to floating markets.
Vietnam-Hau Giang International Rice Festival 2023 opens
The Vietnam-Hau Giang International Rice Festival 2023, themed “Centennial Journey of Vietnamese Rice”, opened in the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang on December 12.
