Ho Chi Minh City marks 50 years since its renaming with image displays in Seoul
VOV.VN - Images marking Ho Chi Minh City’s 50-year milestone were displayed on large electronic screens in central Seoul from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time on July 1 and 2 to mark the 50th anniversary of Sai Gon-Gia Dinh officially being renamed Ho Chi Minh City (July 2, 1976 - July 2, 2026).
The initiative was carried out through cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and its international sister localities, including Seoul, with the aim of promoting the image of a dynamic, modern, internationally integrated city with a rich cultural identity to people in the Republic of Korea (RoK) and international visitors.
The displays on electronic screens in central Seoul, including in Gangnam and the Myeongdong pedestrian area, where large numbers of international and local visitors gather, are part of meaningful external relations activities.
It aims to strengthen people-to-people exchanges and promote the image of Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular to Korean and international friends, while also contributing to deeper cooperative ties between Ho Chi Minh City and RoK localities.
The RoK is currently one of Ho Chi Minh City’s leading partners in trade, investment and tourism, as well as one of Vietnam’s key economic partners.
Over the years, Ho Chi Minh City has established cooperative and sister-city ties with a number of Korean localities, including Seoul, thereby laying the groundwork for stronger cooperation in trade, culture, education and people-to-people exchanges.
The promotional image displays in cities around the world, including in the RoK, continue to demonstrate the effectiveness of Ho Chi Minh City’s international cooperation network in local-level external relations.
