Hanoi welcomes five-millionth international visitor of 2026

The ceremony, organized by the Hanoi Department of Tourism to commemorate the 66th anniversary of Vietnam's tourism sector, welcomed Maria Del Mar Piñas Piñas of Spain, who arrived in Hanoi as the leader of a 19-member tour group on a 16-day trip to Vietnam.

The group departed from Madrid, transited through Doha and landed at Noi Bai International Airport early in the afternoon.

Upon their arrival, representatives of the Hanoi Department of Tourism and related agencies greeted the group with flowers and commemorative gifts, giving the visitors a memorable first impression of the Vietnamese capital.

Expressing her appreciation for the reception, Maria Del Mar Piñas Piñas said the group was deeply grateful for the warm hospitality extended by the Vietnamese people. She said they looked forward to learning more about Hanoi, the first stop on their tour of Vietnam, and hoped to take home not only souvenirs but also lasting memories and memorable experiences from the trip. She also wished Vietnam continued development and expressed hope that the country would offer many more beautiful destinations to visitors from around the world.

After visiting Hanoi, the group will continue its journey to several well-known destinations across Vietnam. According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, welcoming the five-millionth international visitor is a symbolic event and indicates the capital's positive results in tourism promotion and marketing, as well as efforts to improve the quality of its tourism products and services. The city hopes such events will further promote the image of Hanoi as a civilized and hospitable destination, helping attract more international visitors in the future.

Tran Trung Hieu, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, said welcoming the five-millionth international visitor, a traveller from Spain, was a source of great joy for the city.

"Through this event, we want to extend a warm welcome to visitors from many countries. We hope those who choose Hanoi as the starting point of their journey will enjoy truly memorable experiences in Vietnam and will continue to choose Vietnam as a destination and return in the time ahead," he emphasized.

Hanoi received more than 18 million visitors in the first half of 2026, up nearly 16% from the same period last year. International arrivals rose by nearly 27%, showing the growing appeal of Hanoi as a destination on the regional and global tourism map.

The capital has also earned recognition from leading international organizations in rankings of the world's most attractive destinations, thus cementing Hanoi's position in international integration and development.
