Hanoi sees foreign arrivals surge 25% in January-July period

VOV.VN -Hanoi welcomed 5.31 million foreign tourists during the seven-month period of 2026, a 25% increase year-on-year that pushed up total visitors to 21.16 million (up 15%), the Hanoi Department of Tourism reported on July 29.

Domestic tourists accounted for 15.85 million arrivals, up 11.9%. Total tourism revenue during the reviewed period reached VND 86.47 trillion (approx. US$3.4 billion), marking a 17.9% increase compared to the same period last year.

In July 2026 alone, the capital recorded 3.16 million visitors, including 666,670 foreign tourists, generating VND 12.3 trillion in revenue. Average hotel occupancy for the month stood at 58.19% across 3,769 accommodation facilities offering more than 72,400 rooms.

Alongside growing tourist numbers, the city continued to improve destination quality. The Hanoi Department of Tourism surveyed three major sites to evaluate national tourism status: the Hoan Kiem Lake and Old Quarter area, Ba Vi, and the Huong Son (Perfume Pagoda) complex. The city also launched a community-based tourism site in Muong Coc (My Duc), and expanded operations at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism.

To step up promotional efforts, the city organized tourism events in Beijing and Shanxi, and joined the Tianjin Cultural and Tourism Industries Fair in China. Additionally, Hanoi collaborated with CNN for global promotion, launched a media campaign for its 5-millionth international visitor, and hosted the Hanoi Lotus Festival 2026, which drew nearly 300,000 visitors.

For August 2026 and the remaining months, Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism Dang Huong Giang said the agency will finalize a development plan targeting over 12 million international visitors in the next phase, while advancing digital applications and artificial intelligence to build smart tourism services.
