Hanoi aims to attract 19 million visitors by 2021

VOV.VN - The capital of Vietnam is aiming to welcome between 13.13 million and 19.04 million visitors ahead in 2021, which would represent an increase of between 45% and 65.5% compared to the previous year.

Under the tentative plan, the number of domestic visitors is expected to reach between 10.96 million and 15.34 million, representing an increase of between 50% and 70%, with an occupancy rate of accommodation facilities anticipated to reach between 45% and 50% next year.

Tran Trung Hieu, deputy director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, said that despite the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic globally, Hanoi is considered a safe destination for tourists. The city received 8.65 million visitors, including 1.11 million foreign arrivals, this year, equivalent to 30% compared to last year.

According to experts, 2021 will continue to be a challenging year for the city’s tourism industry as the COVID-19 pandemic is not over yet globally.

To weather the crisis and welcome back holidaymakers, the industry has no choice but to restructure the market, with priority being given to the safety of tourists. In addition, it will have to diversify its products, focusing on agricultural and ecological tourism, medical tourism, and tours in association with cultural events, sports, and trade activities.

Phung Quang Thang, director of Hanoitourist Travel Company, a firm which organises tours of Hoa Lo Prison Relic at night, said the company will intensify dissemination on the tour as a means of attracting both local and international tourists.

Duong Mai Lan, director of Thuan An-Ascend Travel Service Joint Stock Company, affirmed that there is plenty of room for the greater development of the domestic tourism market, adding that travel firms must be proactive in designing creative products that are suitable to the tastes of tourists.

The Hanoi Department of Tourism also revealed that it will embark on a cooperation program to promote its tourism through CNN in 2021. It will also work alongside airlines, embassies, international organisations, and tourism service providers to welcome international survey teams and attract greater numbers of tourists to the capital in the future.
