Domestic airlines set record with over 33,000 flights in July
VOV.VN - Vietnamese airlines operated a total of 33,238 flights throughout July, up 8% against the previous month and up 781% year on year, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).
Low-cost airline Vietjet Air and national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines outperformed others, running 13,284 and 11,610 flights, marking rises of 1,865% and 500%, respectively.
Meanwhile, Bamboo Airways and Pacific Airlines operated 4,914 and 2,091 flights, respectively, followed by Vasco with 771 flights and Vietravel Airlines with 568 flights.
The sharp increase in flight numbers highlights the strong growth of the aviation industry following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions. The increasing demand for travel, and visiting relatives represents a golden opportunity for the local aviation industry to recover.
Vietnam was ranked first among the top 25 countries with the fastest growing domestic aviation market, according to the latest announcement made by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
It surpassed other nations such as Mexico, Brazil, Russia, Spain, Turkey, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and more.
The CAAV also revealed that the number of flights on time reached 27,185 in July, accounting for 81.8% of the total, equivalent to the figure recorded in June.
The latest data also showed that up to 6,053 flights made by domestic carriers were delayed in July, representing 18.2%.
There were 41 flights cancelled during the reviewed period, making up 0.12% of the total and a drop of 4% compared to the same period last year.
The main reasons causing flight delays include late return flights, lack of personnel, poor management of ground services and high passenger demand.
