China tops Vietnamese outbound travel for National Day holiday
VOV.VN - Mainland China has emerged as the top international destination for Vietnamese travelers during the National Day holiday (September 2), accounting for nearly 40% of international flight bookings and 63% of overseas hotel bookings on Trip.com.
Trip.com recorded strong travel demand for this year's National Day holiday, with overall flight bookings up 25% year-on-year and total hotel bookings rising 106%. Outbound travel also expanded significantly, as international flight and hotel bookings rose sharply by 44% and 123%, respectively.
Hanoi was the most popular departure hub for outbound travel (55% of international departures), followed by Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hai Phong, and Nha Trang.
In China, Vietnamese tourists tend to stay longer and book more rooms per trip. Beijing ranked as a top flight destination, while hotel demand spread across Shanghai, Hangzhou, Dongxiang, Beijing, and Guangzhou.
Vietnamese travelers averaged 2.13 hotel nights, compared with 1.71 nights during regular periods and 2.06 nights during the 2025 holiday. The average duration for round-trip flights reached 13.6 days, longer than the 11.2 days recorded in 2025, indicating that tourists are extending their vacation time.
Travel agencies and airlines note that reasonable costs, multiple direct routes, scenic landscapes, and diverse cuisine make China increasingly attractive. Vietravel Airlines recently inaugurated a direct service between Ho Chi Minh City and Shenzhen to serve growing business, family-visit, and tourism demand. Travel companies like Top Ten Travel also reported high demand for 4-to-7-day package tours to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and Hong Kong across various price segments.
In the first half of 2026, Vietnam ranked among the top 10 source markets for international visitors to China. According to Beijing municipal data, Vietnamese arrivals to the city climbed 905% compared to the same period in 2019, second only to Russia (1,032%). China’s recent simplified visa procedures for Vietnamese citizens are expected to further facilitate both nations' international tourism growth.
