Young chess players win three world championship titles

VOV.VN - Vietnamese boys and girls under 12 and 14 years old have brought home three gold medals at the ongoing World Cadets & Youth Rapid & Blitz Chess Championship 2023 held in Batumi, Georgia.

Having 10 wins and 1 draw, Dau Khuong Duy received a total of 10.5 points and became the world championship title in the boy’s U12 category.

Also in rapid chess competition, another gold medal went to Pham Tran Gia Phuc in the boy’s U14 category.

In the girl’s U12 category, Le Thai Hoang Anh had 10 points as many as Aiaru Altynbek of Kazakhstan, but Vietnamese player took the No 1 spot due to the higher goal difference.  

Dinh Nho Kiet and Nguyen Hong Nhung won two silver medals in the boy’s U14 and the girl’s U18 categories, respectively. A bronze medal was awarded to Nguyen Nhat Khuong in the boy’s U8 category.

Vietnam are currently topping rapid chess competition in the medal tally.

They will continue to vie for championship titles in blitz competition slated for June 10 and 11.

The World Cadets & Youth Rapid & Blitz Chess Championship 2023, organized by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and the Georgian Chess Federation from June 5 to 12, bringing together 462 participants from 35 countries and territories worldwide.

Vietnam sent 13 chess players to compete at U8, U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18 categories for both boys and girls.
