Women’s team depart for Thailand to defend SEA Games 33 football title
VOV.VN - The Vietnam women’s national football team departed for Thailand on December 2, embarking on their SEA Games 33 journey with the goal of defending the gold medal in women’s football.
In preparation for this major tournament, head coach Mai Duc Chung and his players completed an intensive training phase at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Centre in Hanoi, followed by a productive training camp in Japan. Alongside finalising the squad, the coaching staff focused on tactical refinement to ensure the team enters the competition in optimal condition.
Women’s football at SEA Games 33 will begin on December 5 in Chonburi. Vietnam have been drawn into a tough Group B together with Malaysia, Myanmar and the Philippines.
Speaking before the team’s departure, coach Mai Duc Chung said his players are in good spirits and ready for the challenges ahead. He emphasised the importance of maintaining full concentration in every match and praised his players for their effort throughout the preparation period.
In the coming days, the team will train on local pitches and fine-tune tactics before their opening Group B match against Malaysia on December 5. They will then face the Philippines on December 8 and Myanmar on December 10. With thorough preparation and clear objectives, the team are determined to bring pride to Vietnamese football fans at SEA Games 33.
Earlier, the Vietnamese women’s team announced its 23-player roster for the Southeast Asian Games. Coach Mai Duc Chung’s squad feature several seasoned names from the 2023 World Cup campaign, including Tran Thi Kim Thanh, Hoang Thi Loan, Le Thi Diem My, Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy, Pham Hai Yen or captain Huynh Nhu.
