Women’s national football team lifts AFF trophy for the third time
VOV.VN - The Vietnam women’s national football team eased to a 1-0 win over their rivals from Thailand to win the ASEAN Football Federation Women’s Championships title in Thailand on August 27 after a seven- year wait for a tournament win.

Vietnam showed their dominance throughout the game, putting the hosts under great pressure from the opening whistle. Despite the pressure, the team missed several chances to go ahead with both sides going in level at the break.
Both teams started the second half cautiously with the tie ending goalless after 90 minutes.
Following a brief team talk, head coach Mai Duc Chung instructed the team to be more attacking during extra time. The encouragement worked as Huynh Nhu opened the scoring for Vietnam in the 93rd minute after receiving a spectacular pass from her teammate on the right wing.
Defending their advantage, Vietnam were put under great pressure from the hosts. Fortunately, goalkeeper Kim Thanh was in good form and was able to keep a clean sheet.
During the AFF tournament, the Vietnamese team recorded a total of nine points, scoring 21 goals in the process whilst not conceding a single goal. The win is their third victory in the tournament, after previous wins in 2006 and 2012.
The women’s national football team are to receive a cash bonus of up to VND1.3 billion, including VND300 million for progressing to the semi-finals, VND400 million after making it to the finals, and VND600 million for winning the championship title.
In the third-place playoff match, Myanmar won a comfortable 3-0 victory over the Philippines to win the bronze medal.
