Volleyball star Thanh Thuy re-signs with Japan's Gunma Green Wings
VOV.VN - Japan’s Gunma Green Wings have announced the contract extension of Vietnamese outside hitter Tran Thi Thanh Thuy for the upcoming season in the Japan Volleyball League.
The new deal marks Thanh Thuy’s second consecutive season with the Japanese club and her eighth overseas stint, making her the Vietnamese volleyball player with the most overseas appearances.
Nicknamed “4T”, the VTV Binh Dien Long An outside hitter has previously played for Bangkok Glass of Thailand, Attack Line of Chinese Taipei, Denso Airybees and PFU Blue Cats of Japan, Kuzeyboru of Turkey, Gresik Petrokimia Pupuk of Indonesia, and now Gunma Green Wings for a second straight season.
No Vietnamese volleyball player has competed abroad as frequently as Thanh Thuy, who has consistently established herself as a key player for every club she has represented.
Last season, the 1997-born captain of Vietnam's women's national team scored 604 points in 41 matches for Gunma Green Wings, finishing among the league's top 15 scorers and helping the club secure fifth place.
“I am very happy to once again be part of Gunma Green Wings. I hope we can create many wonderful moments together and enjoy a successful season,” said Thuy.
Continuing her career in Japan marks another milestone for Thanh Thuy and reflects the growing profile of Vietnamese women's volleyball, with an increasing number of players earning opportunities to compete in Asia's top professional leagues.
