VN weightlifter wins silver at Asia Oceania Open Championships
VOV.VN - Vietnamese weightlifter Le Van Cong clinched a silver medal for Vietnam in the men’s 49kg weight category at the 2022 Asia Oceania Open Championships which is getting underway in Pyeongtaek, the Republic of Korea.
The Vietnamese athlete lifted a total of 173kg, 2kg less than Qarada Hamadeh of Jordan who bagged a gold medal.
Cong is the most successful Paralympic athlete in Vietnam.
The athlete, who has two deformed legs, brought home a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Paralympic Games. His rival Qarada Hamadeh won a gold medal at that time.
The Pyeongtaek 2022 Asia Oceania Open Championships is currently taking place from June 15 to 20 in the Republic of Korea, drawing the participation of 231 athletes from 33 countries and territories worldwide.
The tournament helps athletes earn the qualification for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
