VN runner fails at 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships

VOV.VN - Vietnamese athlete Hoang Du Y has been eliminated from the ongoing World Athletics U20 Championship after finishing 45th out of 55 runners in the women's 100m on August 3.

Accordingly, the 100m race saw 55 runners divided into seven heats in the qualification phase, with Du Y touching the finish line after 11.95 seconds.

With the result, the sole Vietnamese representative to the tournament was unable to qualify for the semi-finals.

An athlete from Nigeria came first with a time of 11.09 seconds.

The World Championship set to conclude on August 6 has welcomed the participation of more than 1,500 athletes from all continents competing across 22 events for both men and women.

Going into the competition, Y’s personal best time is 11.83sec, while her seasonal best is 11.94.

She qualified for the Cali competition after winning a silver medal at the 2021 National Athletics Championship with a time of 12.01, which the International Association of Athletics Federation accepted.

The 18-year-old girl was a member of the national team competing at the recent 31st SEA Games. She won a silver in the 4x100m relay for the first time at the regional sporting event.
