Viettel FC lose to BG Pathum United in AFC Champions League
VOV.VN - V.League 1 champions Viettel FC suffered a 2-0 defeat to BG Pathum United of Thailand in the third game of the group stages in the AFC Champions League (ACL), with the fixture taking place on July 2.
Playing at home, BG Pathum scored the first goal of the game in the 13th minute. Despite trailing for most of the match, Viettel FC enjoyed more possession with 53.4%, while the Thai team had 47.6%.
In the second half, Viettel FC played largely on the counter attack, with the most significant contribution coming from key midfielder Nguyen Hoang Duc. However, he couldn’t make a difference as he was tightly marked.
The Thai club continued to take their chances and scored the second goal in the 84th minute through a long-range shot from midfielder Chaowat Veerachat.
Following the result, BG Pathum United are now second in Group F with six points after three matches, while Viettel FC dropped to third. The Vietnamese club need to put in more effort in the second game against Pathum on July 5.
