After suffering a 4-1 loss to Australia in their previous match, Vietnam’s U18s had to get a victory against Singapore in order to have a chance of progressing to the next round of the competition. Showing plenty of skills, the team led by coach Hoang Anh Tuan dominated the match.
From his position on the left wing, Vietnamese U18 footballer Manh Quynh scored the only goal of the first half in the 28th minute.
Despite showing more determination in the second half, Singapore quickly conceded another goal in the 47th minute as Vietnam’s U18s made it 2-0 through Nguyen Hoang. He took his chance following a mistake in the Singaporean defence.
Kim Nhat completed the scoring in the 63rd minute. Cruising to victory, the rest of the game played out with the Vietnamese side having a number of chances to add to the 3-0 score. However, wasteful finishing by Vietnam’s U18 side meant they failed to add to their tally.
The result leaves Vietnam’s U18s ranked third in Group B on six points, just behind Australia’s U18s and Malaysia’s U18s.
The U18 national football team’s next fixture will be against Thailand’s U18s which is set to take place in Ho Chi Minh City at 7:30pm on August 13.
