Vietnam’s lone representative to compete at PPA Asia 500 Tokyo Open 2026
VOV.VN - Sophia Huynh Tran will be Vietnam’s sole representative at the PPA Asia 500 Tokyo Open 2026, scheduled to take place in Tokyo, Japan, from July 1 to 4, and is expected to feature many of Asia’s and the world’s top pickleball players.
The Vietnamese player will compete in three events: women’s singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
The tournament marks another opportunity for Sophia Huynh Tran to gain international competition experience while competing for ranking points on the PPA Tour Asia circuit. Several other Vietnamese players had registered for the event but were unable to travel to Japan due to visa-related issues, leaving Vietnam with only one representative in Tokyo, fewer than initially expected.
The PPA Asia 500 Tokyo Open 2026 is the fourth stop of the 2026 PPA Tour Asia season, with total prize money of US$50,000. Winners in each category will receive 500 ranking points in the PPA Tour Asia standings.
The tournament will be held at Tachikawa Tachihi Arena, covering 11 indoor courts dedicated to pickleball. Professional events will run over four days from the qualifying rounds to the finals in men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
In the men’s singles event, Zane Ford is seeded first, while Tama Shimabukuro is seeded second. In the women’s draw, Kiora Kunimoto is the top seed.
PPA Tour Asia was launched in 2025 to expand the professional pickleball circuit across Asia. Following stops in Kuala Lumpur, Macau and Beijing, Tokyo is the next stop before players continue their competition in Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City in the coming months.
Matches at the PPA Asia 500 Tokyo Open 2026 will be broadcast live and exclusively in Vietnam on FPT Play starting July 1.
