Vietnam’s 14-year-old badminton player jumps 650 places in world rankings

VOV.VN - Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen, a 14-year-old Vietnamese badminton player, has climbed 650 places in the women’s singles world rankings of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) following an impressive run at two international tournaments in Bangladesh.

At the Bangladesh International Challenge, Thu Huyen produced a series of upsets to reach the semifinals, defeating several opponents ranked hundreds of places above her. Prior to the tournament, she was ranked 1,042 in the world. The latest BWF rankings released earlier this week place her at No. 392.

She then continued her strong form at the Bangladesh International Series, winning all of her qualification matches. In the main draw, Thu Huyen defeated India’s Anvitha Vijay, an 18-year-old player ranked 300th in the world, keeping her momentum going and raising expectations of further progress in the rankings.
