Vietnamese team overcome challenges ahead of AFF U18 Championship

VOV.VN - Despite the U18 national football team facing an array of challenges, the squad are maintaining their belief that they can progress to the final round of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U18 Championship, stated Vietnamese head coach Hoang Anh Tuan during a press briefing held in Ho Chi Minh City on August 5.

Vietnam's U18 national football team didn't have much time to prepare for the regional tournament, whilst a number of the team's strongest footballers were unable to play in the championship, causing a headache for the team ahead of the tournament, Mr Tuan said.

The team have been drawn in the same group as a number of other nations, he noted, adding that he considered all the teams to be strong..  

The Vietnamese footballers are expected to give their best efforts and achieve to positive results, especially once they add more experience in international tournaments, the head coach stressed.

In their opening match, Vietnam's U18s will play Malaysia at the Thong Nhat stadium at 7:30pm on August 7.

Also in Ho Chi Minh City, they will face Australia at 6:30pm on August 9, Singapore at 3:30pm on August 11, Thailand at 6:30pm on August 13, and Cambodia at 6:30pm on August 15.
