Vietnamese Taekwondo athletes top medal table at CJ Vietnam Open 2026
VOV.VN - Hosts Vietnam have topped the overall medal table at the second CJ Vietnam Open, a World Taekwondo-recognised G1 tournament held in Ho Chi Minh City from July 28 to 29, securing 5 gold, 8 silver, and 15 bronze medals.
Bac Thi Khiem continued to be one of Vietnamese taekwondo's greatest hopefuls as she won a gold medal in the women's -73kg category.
This home-soil victory extends an impressive career record for Khiem. As a key member of the national team in international competitions, the 26-year-old fighter from Son La province previously bagged the gold medal at the 2024 Asian Taekwondo Championships and topped the podium at the SEA Games 33.
The successful performance at G1 tournament helped her improve position in the world ranking, thereby creating an advantage in the race to accumulate points for the 2028 Olympics.
The other four gold medalists went to Nguyen Anh Tuan in the men's -58kg, Nguyen Thi Loan in the women's -53kg, Pham Ngoc Cham in the women's -62kg, and Tran Thi Anh Tuyet in the women's -67kg.
The CJ Vietnam Open now emerges as a key international tournament in Southeast Asia, according to experts. Following its inaugural edition in 2025, this year’s event saw the significant rise in the number of participating athletes and nations, reflecting the growing appeal of the tournament hosted by Vietnam.
