Vietnam women's volleyball fall narrowly to Kazakhstan in AVC Cup 2026
VOV.VN - Vietnam women's volleyball team suffered a narrow defeat to Kazakhstan on June 12, finishing second in Pool B of the AVC Cup 2026 after missing out on top spot despite coming close to victory.
Having already secured a place in the semi-finals with a win over Iran, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's side entered their final pool match with strong determination. Facing a physically imposing Kazakhstan team, Vietnam made a confident start and claimed the opening set thanks to the performances of captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and the team's effective blocking.
Kazakhstan responded in the second set, capitalising on Vietnam's reception errors to level the match. Vietnam regained the advantage in the third set, with Thanh Thuy continuing to lead the attack as her team moved within one set of victory.
However, just as they appeared on course for the win, Vietnam surrendered their lead. Kazakhstan made full use of their physical strength to take the fourth set before completing the comeback in the deciding set.
The 3-2 defeat means Vietnam advance to the AVC Cup 2026 semi-finals as runners-up in Pool B. Their semi-final opponents will be determined following the match between the Republic of Korea (RoK) and Chinese Taipei later on June 12.
