Vietnam women cruise past Hong Kong 3-0 at Asian volleyball championship

The team played their second match of the tournament against Hong Kong, China on the morning of August 24.

Needing a 3-0 victory to boost their chances of reaching the quarterfinals, Nguyen Tuan Kiet’s side made a good start and led throughout much of the first set.

However, Vietnam struggled at times late in the set, allowing Hong Kong to close the gap. The team had to rely on the experience of their key players to pull away and take the opening set 25-19.

With their nerves settled, Vietnam took complete control of the second set. Even with Thanh Thuy left on the bench by the coaching staff, the team pulled well clear of their opponents to win 25-12.

The team struggled early in the third set, allowing Hong Kong to take the lead repeatedly. They also suffered a setback when Nguyen Thi Uyen was injured while jumping for a spike and was unable to continue.

In a difficult situation, the team regrouped and made the most of their scoring opportunities. Nguyen Tuan Kiet’s side built a big lead before closing out the third set 25-11.

The victory puts Vietnam in a stronger position to reach the quarterfinals at the 2026 Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship.
