Vietnam U23 side likely to train in RoK ahead of Asian Cup qualifiers

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese national U23 team are planning to participate in a training camp held in the Republic of Korea (RoK) in preparation for the qualifying round of the 2022 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U23 Asian Cup.

Tran Quoc Tuan, permanent vice president of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), said the VFF is arranging two friendly matches for the U23 squad and will put on a training camp abroad for the team.

The VFF has chosen the Republic of Korea (RoK) for the training as regulations state that footballers who have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will be permitted to train behind closed doors in the RoK, he noted.

Vietnam will face hosts Chinese Taipei on October 27 in their opening match in Group I of the 2022 AFC U23 Asian Cup qualifiers.

They will then take on Myanmar on October 31 in the final match of the group stage.

In total, the 11 group winners and four second-placed teams from the qualifiers will compete in the final round which is scheduled to be held in Uzbekistan between September 6 and September 25, 2022.

The Vietnamese U23 squad got an initial training camp underway on August 10 in Hanoi. At present, they are planning an additional training camp in a foreign country which has weather condition similar to Chinese Taipei.

Vietnam do have history in the AFC U23 Asian Cup after finishing second at the 2018 tournament, although they were knocked out in the group stage in 2020.
