Vietnam U20 set sights on spot in 2027 AFC U20 Asian Cup finals
VOV.VN - The Vietnam U20 national football team has commenced its first training session at Viet Tri Stadium in Phu Tho province, launching the final preparation phase for Group C of the 2027 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualifiers, according to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).
Following an intensive training camp in Japan with several beneficial friendly matches, head coach Yutaka Ikeuchi and his team quickly returned to their training routine.
The Japanese strategist urged his players to maintain high concentration and display strong determination ahead of official competition.
Viet Tri Stadium is familiar territory for many U20 players, as several of them competed here with the Vietnam U17 squad during their successful qualification campaign for the 2025 AFC U17 Asian Cup. That prior experience is expected to give the young players added confidence upon returning to a familiar pitch.
Under the schedule, Vietnam U20 will spend about a week preparing in Phu Tho before opening their campaign against DPR Korea U20 on August 31. The team will subsequently take on Palestine U20 on September 3 and conclude the group stage against top-seeded Iran U20 on September 6. Group C is considered a tough challenge with the presence of Iran alongside DPR Korea and Palestine.
To secure a place in the finals, Vietnam U20 must achieve good results against each opponent and particularly minimize errors in decisive matches. Under the competition format, the eight group winners and the seven best runners-up will advance to the final tournament alongside host China. The tournament also serves as the Asian qualifiers for the 2027 FIFA U20 World Cup.
Admission to all Group C matches at Viet Tri Stadium is free of charge. Support from home fans is set to provide strong motivation for Vietnam U20 as the team pursues a ticket to the 2027 AFC U20 Asian Cup finals.
