Vietnam tops Southeast Asian fencing championships
VOV.VN - Vietnam came out on top during the Southeast Asia Fencing Federation (SEAFF) Championships which concluded on December 10 in Malaysia, winning a total of five gold medals.
The national team took the lead in the women’s épée team event on the final day of the competition thanks to the brilliance of local fencers Nguyen Phuong Kim, Nguyen Thi Kieu Oanh, Pham Huyen Trang, and Vu Thi Hong.
The event witnessed the Vietnamese fencers successfully beat the Philippines 45-43 to ultimately win the title.
This comes after male fencers also bagged a gold medal in the men’s épée team event.
On the last competition day, Vietnamese athletes brought home a silver medal in the men’s foil team event after losing to the Philippines 41-40.
A bronze medal went to the Vietnamese team consisting of Vu Thanh An, Nguyen Xuan Loi, Nguyen Van Quyet, and Le Van Bang in the men’s saber team event. Thai fencers also defeated Vietnamese athletes 45-42 in the semi-final round. The SEAFF Championships got underway from December 6 to December 10 in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
The tournament offered regional athletes a good opportunity to gain experience and improve their capacity ahead of major international sporting events, especially the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) 2025 in Thailand.
