Vietnam to take on Iran in 2022 AFC Futsal Asian Cup quarter-finals

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese national futsal team are set to face Iran in the quarter-finals of the ongoing 2022 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Asian Cup despite their loss to Japan in a group D match on October 2.

In their final group game, Vietnam lost 2-0 to Japan, subsequently finishing second in Group D and qualifying for the quarter-finals.

The Japanese side took control in the opening minutes of the game, with Kazuya Shimizu quickly opening the scoring in the sixth minute.

Vietnamese players made every effort to get back into the game, but they ultimately failed to score any goal. Goalkeeper Ho Van Y worked very hard to repel their opponents’ attacks.

It was Shimizu again who turned around very quickly to eliminate Vietnamese defenders and then shoot diagonally to make it 2-0.

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) awarded the national futsal team VND500 million after they made it to the next round of the tournament.

Vietnam are scheduled to play powerhouse Iran in the quarter-finals at 3 p.m. on October 4 in Kuwait (local time).

According to the Futsal World Ranking, Iran are ranked sixth in the world, and first in Asia. They are also winners of 12 of the previous 15 editions of AFC Futsal Asian Cup.
