Vietnam to play friendly against New Zealand ahead of WC 2023

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese women’s team will play a friendly match against hosts New Zealand ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The match is scheduled to take place at the McLean Park in Napier, north of New Zealand, on July 10.

Coach Mai Duc Chung said he was happy that his team would have a big chance to test their capacity and hone in skills before the start of the World Cup tournament.

“It will be a match against one of the two hosts of the tournament so we really appreciate it,” said Chung.

This will be the last friendly match of the New Zealand women’s team before they begin their quest for a title in their home turf at the 2023 FIFA World Cup slated for this July.

Both New Zealand and Australia will co-host the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup from July 20 to August 20.

Vietnam will play in Group E together with USA, the Netherlands and Portugal.

This is the first time that the Vietnamese women’s team have qualified for the World Cup tournament. They are among six Asian representatives at the event, alongside China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Philippines and hosts Australia.
