Vietnam to face Myanmar at 2022 AFC U23 Asian Cup
VOV.VN - Vietnam will play in Group I in the qualifiers for the 2022 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U23 Asian Cup, alongside the likes of Myanmar, Hong Kong (China), and Taiwan (China), following an online draw held on July 9 in Malaysia.
The national team are one of 19 sides in the East Zone, a region which has been divided into five groups as part of the draw.
Elsewhere, Group G includes Australia, China, Indonesia, and Brunei.
Group H features the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Timor-Leste, and the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, and Mongolia are in Group J, whilst the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Japan, and Cambodia make up Group K.
Taiwan (China), Indonesia, Mongolia, and Singapore will be the hosts of the qualifiers in the East Zone. The AFC is set to announce a fifth venue in the near future.
A total of 19 teams in the East Zone will join 23 teams in the West Zone in competing in the qualifiers for the 2022 AFC U23 Asian Cup between October 23 - 31.
The 11 group winners and the four best runners-up will qualify for the finals of the tournament, an event which is scheduled to take place between June 1 - 19 in Uzbekistan.
Vietnam do have history in the competition after finishing second at the 2018 tournament, although they were knocked out in the group stage at the 2020 event.
It is likely that this year’s Vietnam U23 side will showcase the talents of outstanding footballers who have shown their quality in previous tournaments, including Doan Van Hau, Nguyen Van Toan, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, and Nguyen Huu Thang.
