Vietnam stun Chinese Taipei at AVC Girls’ U18 Volleyball Champ
VOV.VN - Vietnam opened their campaign at the Girls’ U18 Volleyball Championship 2026 of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) in Thailand on July 1 with a convincing 3-0 victory over Chinese Taipei, securing all three points in their opening Group-stage match.
The Vietnamese team, coached by Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa, quickly took control of the contest from the opening set. Strong serving, disciplined defence and effective attacking combinations allowed Vietnam to dominate early, with captain Anh Thao leading the offense as they cruised to a 25-11 win.
Vietnam maintained their momentum in the second set, with Anh Thao continuing to impress while Khanh Linh and Cham Anh applied sustained pressure through a series of effective serves. Although Chinese Taipei improved late in the set, Vietnam remained in control to claim it 25-20 and move within one set of victory.
The third set followed a similar pattern as Vietnam raced to an early 7-2 lead before extending the advantage to 12-3 through solid defensive play and quick counterattacks. Despite a brief response from Chinese Taipei, Vietnam finished strongly with six consecutive points to seal the set 25-15 and complete a straight-sets victory.
Captain Anh Thao finished as Vietnam's top scorer with 12 points, including two blocks and one service ace.
Khanh Linh added 11 points, posting a 52.9% attack success rate along with two blocks, while Cham Anh contributed nine points, highlighted by an impressive 71.4% attacking efficiency and four service aces.
Vietnam will return to action against the Republic of Korea at 1:00 p.m. on July 2 before concluding the group stage against India at the same time on July 3.
The AVC Girls’ U18 Volleyball Championship 2026 is taking place in Thailand from July 1 to 7, featuring 16 teams. The top four finishers will qualify for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Girls' U19 World Championship.
