Vietnam stage dramatic comeback to hold Thailand in futsal thriller

Facing one of Asia's strongest futsal teams, Vietnam struggled from the outset as Thailand imposed relentless pressure with quick attacking combinations.

The hosts took the lead in the second minute when Atippong capitalised on a defensive error before Panut doubled the advantage moments later. He intercepted the ball in midfield, rounding goalkeeper Ho Van Y and finishing into an empty net.

Vietnam attempted to respond through Trong Kien, Chau Doan Phat and Cong Dai, whose powerful effort struck the crossbar in the 15th minute.

Thailand, however, remained in control. Panut completed his brace in the 13th minute following a well-worked team move, giving the hosts a commanding 3-0 lead at half-time.

When the match appeared beyond reach, Vietnam produced an inspired response after the break.

Chau Doan Phat reignited the contest in the 26th minute with a powerful long-range strike to make it 3-1.

Vietnam continued to press forward, and only minutes later Minh Quang unleashed another fierce shot from distance that beat goalkeeper Kaewwilai, reducing the deficit to a single goal.

The dramatic comeback was completed with just over two minutes remaining. Da Hai met a precise pass inside the penalty area and calmly slotted home from close range to secure a 3-3 draw, sparking jubilant celebrations among the Vietnamese players.

The draw leaves Vietnam on eight points from four matches, keeping coach Diego Giustozzi's side firmly in contention for the tournament title.

Thailand have seven points but still have one match left against Russia, meaning the championship will be decided in the final fixtures.
