Vietnam seeded in Pot 6 ahead of draw for World Cup qualifiers
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese national football team have been seeded in Pot 6 alongside Lebanon in the upcoming draw for the next round of Asian qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup which is set to take place on July 1.
According to FIFA, football’s world governing body, the Vietnamese squad have earned an additional 2.79 points to possess a total of 1260.85 points after winning two matches and losing one match in the recent matches played during the second round of qualifiers.
Vietnam therefore rank 11th among the 12 national teams who have progressed through to the third qualifying round in the Asian region for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Elsewhere in the draw, Pot 1 contains Japan and Iran, with Australia and the Republic of Korea in Pot 2, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in Pot 3, Iraq and China in Pot 4, along with Oman and Syria in Pot 5.
The 12 teams are set to be divided into two groups, with the draw being held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on July 1.
Participating teams will play each team in their group twice, with four teams progressing automatically to the finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Furthermore, the two third-placed teams will compete in a play-off round, with the winner then facing a representative from another continent to secure a place in the finals of the World Cup.
All of the matches in the third round of qualifiers in the Asian region are set to get underway from September 2 to March 29, 2022.
