Vietnam secure second win during training camp in RoK ahead of ASEAN Cup
VOV.VN - Vietnam defeated Daegu, a K-League 1 football club, 2-0 in another friendly game on November 29 during their ongoing training camp in the Republic of Korea in preparation for the 2024 ASEAN Football Championship (Mitsubishi Cup 2024).
Coach Kim Sang-sik sent in familiar names such as Quang Hai, Tuan Hai, Tan Tai, and Bu Tien Dung in the starting lineup. Meanwhile, Daegu FC, which had just lost 3-4 to Asan FC in a K-League play-off, fielded a weakened squad in preparation for the second leg on December 1.
Daegu FC controlled the game early on, but the Vietnamese defense line remained solid and disciplined. The visiting players focused on exploiting the flanks for counterattacks. Just before halftime, Quang Hai scored to give Vietnam a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, coach Kim made several substitutions, but the team stuck to their original strategy. The defense continued to hold firm, neutralizing Daegu FC’s attacks.
In the 85th minute, Nguyen Hai Long capitalized on an opportunity inside the penalty box, scoring a precise goal to extend Vietnam’s lead.
This victory not only boosted the team’s confidence following their 2-0 win over Ulsan Citizen two days ago, but also served as a valuable test of the tactics and gameplay that Kim is working on.
His players are scheduled to play another friendly game against Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC on December 1 before flying to Laos for the 2024 ASEAN Cup.
